This is a question that I ask a number of time during a round. I didn’t hit the green and now have to decide what to hit to get the ball close. More times than not my wedge comes up short. Either I decelerate on the down swing. Chuck it. Or pop it up with too much spin and it stops short. The MrShortGame Golf video https://youtu.be/SrbsBKREOOo gives some good hints. Stay warm.
Depends on the lie, slope and how much green to work with. Since the 7-iron has less loft the golf ball will run more and the shot will be lower in height. So this is good if you have a nice apron shot and the pin is not tucked in front. If you are on a hill the 7-iron is a good club as the hill will give you extra loft like a wedge. The wedge is great to use anytime if you are good at using it and can “pop” it up and land it with accuracy.
