This is a question that I ask a number of time during a round. I didn’t hit the green and now have to decide what to hit to get the ball close. More times than not my wedge comes up short. Either I decelerate on the down swing. Chuck it. Or pop it up with too much spin and it stops short. The MrShortGame Golf video https://youtu.be/SrbsBKREOOo gives some good hints. Stay warm.

Special Events Confirm & Wait Lists as of 6 February 2021
Updates to the Special Events Confirm & Wait Lists as of 6 February 2021 have been posted to the Metro Seniors web site.
2021 Special Events Confirm & Wait Lists
The Confirm & Wait Lists have been posted to the Metro Seniors web site. The lists are through 31 January 2021. There have been a few signups today on 1 February 2021. These will be reflected in the next update.
You can find the list by going to the Metro Seniors Home/About Us page. Click on the Schedule and Results link in the top tool bar. Click on Special Events in the drop down menu. Click on the Confirm-Wait-Pairings-Instructions link. Then click on the event you want to look at. Or, go to the side bar on the Home/About Us page and click on Special Event Tournaments. Or click here.
There are some teams that have partners listed that have not signed up yet. Take a look at the Confirm & Wait Lists to see if your partners are listed. You can contact me, Joe Lerch jlwc@sbcglobal.net, if you think a partner is not listed. I can check the sign up software.
The first event, Find Your Swing, has plenty of room to signup. This is a great course to start off the new season. It will be held at a very nice Country Club, Sunset Hill, in Edwardsville, IL. It is a 4-person scramble and is loads of fun. Give it a try.
Several of the events are full and have a Wait List. Don’t let this stop you from signing up. We typically have around 20 cancellations for each event. We like a wait list to help fill the event. We can’t guarantee that you will make it in if you are on the wait list. But we have a pretty good record of everyone getting in. If we do have players still on the wait list after the event, refunds will be processed (less the $2 credit card fee).
Division 2 (Only) Schedule Revision
Schedule for Division 2 has a date adjustment. With agreement between Metro Seniors, Far Oaks and Florissant, we swapped dates.
The revisions for the schedule are now posted on the Metro Seniors website. This includes changes to the All Division Schedule, The Div 2 Schedule, our Wallet Schedule, and our Events Calendar. The revisions are dated today 1-22-21.
Division 2 members, please adjust your calendars as needed.
We are willing to work with our partner courses for the benefit of all. Even a “simple” change like swapping 2 dates requires cooperation between Metro Seniors and at least 2 courses, sometimes several more.
Our close working relationships are critical in our ability to give all our members a full and fun schedule during the year.
You as members are important to maintaining these relationships. Please respect the courses’ rules, their personnel and their property. The continuing pandemic simply makes this even more important.

2021 Wallet Sized Schedule Card
Wallet /Credit Card sized schedule is available as a PDF file (below). This includes all 26 weeks of tournaments for Division 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 plus our Special Events.
This is a one (1) sheet 8.5×11, two (2) page form that includes all five weekly divisions plus the Special Events calendar information. One side has all 26 weeks in calendar order with a separate list of Special Events. The other side has the Special Events included in the calendar order with the Weekly Tournaments, useful if you are playing most Special Events.
Each division is printed in a 2.25″ length X 8.5″ width. Cut your division from the printed form. Then fold on the “FOLD LINE” to credit card size 2.25″ X 2.75″ size.
If you have a duplex printer (prints on 2 sides of paper) you can print it directly and cut out your division. IMPORTANT – Print option to “flip on long side” to have the front and back for each division properly aligned on front and back. Print this on card stock for more heft.
If printer is not duplex, print both pages, cut out your division and attach the 2 sides together. Then fold at each “FOLD LINE” to credit card size.
Click here to download the PDF file for printing.
This is what the form will look like.
2021-Wallet-Schedule-Rev-1-22-21Get Ready For The Golf Season
Are you sitting around wishing the golf season would get here? Well, we can try some indoor practice to get us ready for when the season rolls around. There are practice tips that we can do indoors in our basement or even in the front room. Carpeting or a practice mat helps. And practice balls will help us stay out of the dog house. I am trying to practice putting and chipping since these are the improvements that can really help us lower our scores.
I have a YouTube channel that I follow, “MrShortGame Golf”. I like his videos because he does not go into super complicated methods that leave me confused. But there are many other good channels to follow also. I thought I would pass on some of his videos that I like and maybe help get us motivated to practice a little and get ready for the start of the season.
The first video is “The #1 Golf Chipping Method“. This video takes place outdoors but can be tried indoors. Click on the link and see what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_2u-QfELwY
I will add other videos after I try them out. And maybe add links to interesting golf articles.
Updates to Division Schedules
A minor update to the Division 1-5 schedule data. Tamarack price was adjusted to $31 from $30 and new revision date.
Plus the Events Calendar was adjusted to include the last half of Div 5 season. It was not completely imported to the calendar.
We sometimes have to make adjustments to the schedules during the year. Usually the schedules and the events calendar will be updated unless the change is really minor. The 1 page schedules will include a revision date (upper right hand corner).
For major changes (changed day or a rescheduled event), we will post the information on the website. If you are “SUBSCRIBED” you will receive an email notice from the website. In addition, your Division VP may also send a separate email.
The best way to stay up on everything is to be subscribed to the website. If you change email addresses during the year, you will need to “re-SUBSCRIBE” with the new email address.
Checking the website every once in a while for the schedules and events calendar is good to make sure you are up to date. Check the recent posts for news and changes.
Starter/Scorer Schedule for Division 4
Division 4 has published the Starter Scorer Schedule for 2021 season. You can view the schedule at the bottom of this page.
As an all volunteer organization, we need all members to do their duty and help out with the Starter/Scorer duties for about once per year. It takes about 2 hours at the course. In addition a little extra time for preparation a few days before.
It is not hard. We are working to make it as easy as possible. Your Division VP will usually check with you and help as needed.
IT IS IMPORTANT! If a Starter fails to show up or is poorly prepared, everybody on the event suffers.

Div-4-1-14-2021-STARTER-SCORERChanges in Metro Seniors!
Starting this year a 3rd tee box (Forward) has been added for C and D flight players only. If your handicap, in your division, in the week you are playing makes you a “C” or a “D” flight player, at your option you may play from the “Most Forward” third tee box. Again this is only for “C” or “D” flight players. The additional tee box will only be available for some courses. Check with your VP for the list of courses where this option applies. Additional information on this change will be sent out from the VP’s of each Division before the start of the season.
Effective immediately, Dennis Black is now the Metro Seniors First Vice President. Dennis replaces Tony Ellebracht who resigned due to medial issues. We will miss Tony’s leadership and hope he recovers. I’m sure if he does, you will see him in another role in Metro Seniors soon. You won’t meet a nicer person than Tony.
Replacing Dennis Black in Division 5 as the Division VP is Bill Molz. Bill is everywhere, Special Events, Metro Plus and has been the Nominating Chair for past 10 years. Roy Migneco has agree to stay on as his Deputy VP.
Craig Carothers from Division 3 and OGS, has stepped up again and now will serve as the Handicap Chairman. Steven Goldstein from Division 4 is now the Rules Chairman.
