Pace of Play

Want a faster round of golf?  Just about everyone does.

Obviously, Pace of Play is a subject as old as golf.  And there are about as many ideas on “Causes” and “Solutions” are there are golfers.

Many factors are involved in the Pace of Play on any golf course. The major elements are:

  • Course Selection, Course Design, Difficulty, Maintenance, Facilities
  • Tournament Rules (Start, OB Lost Balls, Tees, Handicaps, et al)
  • Player Behavior

Metro Seniors is committed to maintaining a good pace of play for all members. Ready Golf and Keeping Up with the group ahead are requirements for all members.  Data for 2016 thru 2022 show that we typically play in the 4 to 4 1/2 hour pace.

We collect and analyze pace data for all divisions and tee groups.  Slower players and groups have been cooperating with significant improvements from past years.

We are also using the data to evaluate the courses we play and starts (shotgun or tee starts) as well as playing rules.
